ITINERARY
​
Day 1 – Arrive Kumbakonam
​
The tour starts in Kumbakonam after lunch. Evening visit Oppiliappan temple and Thirunageswaram and Sarangapani temple. Spend the evening at the Mahamaham tank and walk around the markets selling bronze vessels and statues.

Day 2 – Kumbakonam
​
After breakfast at the hotel, we explore the ancient crafts of this region. The bronze furnaces and the silk handloom weaving are some of our interest areas today. In the Thirubhuvanam silk cooperative the weaver explains the science behind creating the designs on the silk sarees. In Nachiarkovil, where the Kuthuvilakku(traditional lamp) is made, we also visit the Perumal temple which is famous for the legendary procession of Kal Garudar.

We have lunch in one of the oldest restaurants in Kumbakonam. After a wholesome meal, return to the hotel for a short siesta.
​
In the evening we do coffee hopping and listen to locals explain the origin of Degree coffee. Spend the evening at Kumbeshwarar temple.

Day 3 – Kumbakonam - Thanjavur
​
Visit Darassuram which showcases the evolution of Chola architecture in the intricate sculptures on its pillars. Onward to Thanjavur where the grandeur of Rajarajeswaram temple awaits us.

Day 4 – Thanjavur - Madurai
​
We visit the Saraswathi Mahal library and bronze museum in the forenoon. Drive to Madurai, visiting places of interest en route.

Day 5 – Madurai
​
Visit the Meenakshi Temple and explore the stories in the many sculptures that decorate its 1000 pillared Hall. The Gandhi Museum, Thirumala Nayak Palace, Azhagar Temple and Thiruparankundram highlight other aspects of this ancient city. The rituals in night ceremony at Meenakshi Temple are elaborate and worth a visit.

Day 6 – Departure
We say our Nandri Vanakkam and goodbyes today. Transfer to Madurai airport/ Rail station. Or you may choose to extend your travel in South India which we will assist you with.
